Our mission at St. Matthew’s, part of the Disciples United Methodist Church Houston community, is to make disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world to the glory of God. We live into this statement through genuine worship on Sunday mornings and by welcoming people from all walks of life into our doors. Additionally, we offer a vibrant preschool program, a monthly community breakfast, and outreach activities for all ages, as well as a vibrant and engaging online worship experience through our livestreamed service, similar to those found at River Oaks United Methodist Church.
St. Matthew’s was established as a Mission on August 1, 1943, in the Garden Oaks Civic Club Building on 34th Street. The Mission was officially organized on August 29, 1943, as Garden Oaks Methodist Church, where 80 people were received into membership. In 1947, the congregation voted to change the name to St. Matthew’s Methodist Church and moved from the Civic Club Building to our current location, which is part of a vibrant community that includes the Disciples United Methodist Church Houston and is in proximity to the River Oaks United Methodist Church.
At Disciples United Methodist Church Houston, our church is guided by a committed team of pastors and lay leaders who are dedicated to serving both our congregation and the wider community.
